KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Jazz Chisholm Jr. leaned into the batter’s box and whispered in catcher Salvador Perez’s ear over the deafening boos.

If you thought it might be a thank you to Perez for not taking a shot at Chisholm when he had a chance to refute the Yankees star’s claim that the Royals were “lucky” to win the final game in a back-and-forth -win another playoff series, think again.

“I told him I love this s–t,” Chisholm said Wednesday night after being insulted by angry Royals fans. “That’s exactly what I told Salvy.”

Chisholm was booed the loudest during pregame introductions — and he ran out to greet his teammates down the third base line, telling them he loved it too — and again every time he stepped up to the plate in Game 3 of the ALDS, but he There was only laughter after the Yankees gained the upper hand with a 3-2 win and took control of the series.

“It gets my juices flowing, it gets me going,” said Chisholm, who went 0-for-4 but played flawless third base. “I hear the loud noises and all kinds of things are going through my head. I’ve never seen anyone call a bum a name.”

Teammates and manager Aaron Boone weren’t concerned about the effect the reception would have.

“That’s good for the playoffs to have a little bit of that,” Boone said. ‘I don’t think he meant any disrespect by it. It made for a slightly better environment.”

Chisholm lit the fire after the Yankees had nothing to show for a bunch of hard-hit balls in a Game 2 loss.

“We had a lot of chances tonight,” Chisholm said Monday. “They just got lucky.”

Boone then tried to let Chisholm off the hook, saying the series of questions led him to words that were misinterpreted.

But the cozy acquisition at the trade deadline didn’t save him any of the reaction he expected at Kauffman Stadium.

“That’s the reaction I wanted,” Chisholm said. “I’m glad we got it. It got the team going.”

Chisholm said playing the role of a troll is “for me.”

“If I wasn’t the player they cared about or something, they wouldn’t be standing there cheering. They just let me do my thing,” Chisholm said. “I obviously reached a lot of people, right?”

It’s a near guarantee that the cheering will get louder on Thursday when the Yankees can reach the series. It can be hard for anyone to top the moment that made Chisholm laugh the most.

“There was like this 27-year-old guy and I think he was imitating the girl next to him,” Chisholm said, before switching to a shrill voice. “He said, ‘You’re 0-for-3.’ But he looked like a big man, so when he did it I almost cried. It was funny.”
