Jamshedpur, July 30: DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur, organised the two-day DAV National Sports 2024 Cluster-I Tournament, featuring events like table tennis, karate, wushu, judo and boxing on July 30, 2024. Cricket matches were held at LIC Ground, Kadma and Cooperative College Ground. Athletics competitions are scheduled to be held at Sumant Moolgaokar Stadium, Telco on July 31.

The inauguration ceremony saw 800 participants from 8 schools reciting the DAV Gaan. The event was graced by the honourable ARO cum Principal, Pragya Singh who welcomed the principals of the participating schools: Mahua Singh of DAV Model School, CFRI, Dhanbad, Rekha Kumari of DAV Public School, Chaibasa, PK Bhuiya of Tata DAV Public School, Noamundi, Chandrani Banerjee of TATA DAV School, Sijua, Asis Kumar Mandal of DAV Public School, Mahuda and Rakesh Sharma of DAV Public School, Barora along with enthusiastic participants.

In her welcome address, Pragya Singh expressed her gratitude to the dignitaries and motivated participants for playing with true sportsmanship and integrity. She highlighted the structure of the tournament, with events for boys and girls in three age categories – Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19, aimed at promoting sportsmanship, brotherhood, discipline, teamwork and excellence among students.

Singh stressed the importance of a clear vision, focused approach and determination in achieving goals. She encouraged young athletes to learn the rules, strive for excellence and bring laurels to their families and schools. Zonal certificates will serve as state-level certificates for winners, with the best performers progressing to the national tournament and possible selection for the Olympics.

The honourable ARO cum Principal, Pragya Singh, officially declared the DAV National Sports Cluster-I Tournament open. After the opening ceremony, the teams proceeded to their respective venues for competitions. The day ended with applause and cheers as today’s winners were felicitated with medals, marking a day of talent, competition and camaraderie.
