Ja’Marr Chase says he had food poisoning on Saturday

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase declined to comment on his contractual situation following Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, but he did explain why he was added to the injured list on Saturday.

Chase has been added to the list as doubtful with an illness and he told reporters on Sunday, via Mike Petraglia of CLNS Media, that he was battling food poisoning. He said he feels better than he did on Saturday and that the illness “doesn’t matter” because he played through it.

Chase was unsure whether he would play outside of the illness, having not received the contract extension he sought this offseason. He reportedly wasn’t sure what he would do Sunday morning, but played 40 of 48 snaps and caught six passes on six targets in the 16-10 loss.

When asked if he thought the uncertainty over his status affected game strategy, Chase said it was a question for head coach Zak Taylor and that the Bengals still have a lot of answers to answer after their failure in the season opener.
