Jalen Hurts ‘devastated’ by death of legendary R&B singer

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was recently asked the question: If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

“There’s a Frankie Beverly live album that I listen to. It’s the one right here,” Hurts said as he picked up the Maze album “Live in New Orleans.” “I could listen to this for the rest of my life. …

“I think the live album feeling gives you the presence of being there. I think my favorite song is ‘Happy Feelings’ and ‘Joy and Pain’.”

Beverly led Maze through the live performance at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans in 1980, which was released as an album in 1981.

When Beverly’s family announced the singer’s passing on Wednesday, it was a huge blow to the NFL Pro Bowler.

“His timeless music, his powerful words and his lasting impact,” Hurts wrote on social media. “I am devastated to hear this. My prayers are with the Beverly family and the many Frankie fans around the world! His legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace my friend. Long live Frankie.”

Hurts led the Eagles to a 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers in their season opener on Friday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
