Jacoby Brissett’s answer is everything you need to know about the Jets’ defense

Jacoby Brissett likely woke up stiff Friday morning after the Patriots’ 24-3 loss to the Jets.

“It really didn’t come down to the plays. They just beat us up, to be honest with you,” Brissett told reporters on Friday.

Brissett was tackled five times by the Jets, after being tackled just four times in the Patriots’ first two games against the Seahawks and Bengals.

Even backup Drake Maye, making his debut as a cleanup guard, was picked off by Jamien Sherwood on a one-yard scramble and sacked twice more.

Coach Jerod Mayo, who initially declined to say whether Brissett would continue to start in Maye’s place, appeared to agree with the beating Brissett took.

“Jacoby is our quarterback until he’s not. I thought he showed a lot of toughness and grit last night. …” Mayo told reporters.

The Patriots’ offensive line, which was a major problem before the season, will have to improve regardless of who plays quarterback if they want to stay in the game.

Before allowing seven sacks on “Thursday Night Football,” the Patriots had the third-worst offensive line rating according to Pro Football Focus, so it’s a fair bet they’ll be the worst in the league once all Week 3 games are completed.

Brissett was pressured on 12 of 23 dropbacks (52.2 pressure percentage), disastrous numbers for the struggling unit.

The Patriots will likely not want to send Maye, 22, back, as he has limited play and no time to throw, putting him at risk for long-term injuries.

New England will face the vaunted 49ers defense again on September 29.
