SUGAR LAND, Texas – A Houston resident tried his luck and woke up $800 million richer after matching all six numbers in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at Murphy USA 8848 at Highway 90 Alt and University Boulevard in Sugar Land.

The winning numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24 and 66, with the golden Mega Ball 6. This winning combination gives the lucky player the option to take the entire jackpot amount or a one-time cash option of $404.2 million. According to Mega Millions, this is the seventh-largest jackpot in the game’s history and the third won this year.

“It’s great news, it’s definitely an exciting time,” a Murphy USA employee told KPRC 2’s Kait Catuiza by phone. “We get over 100 customers a day that come in here to buy a lottery ticket.”

According to reports from Mega Millions, the September 10 drawing will mark the 15th time since 2003 that someone in Texas has won the jackpot.
