It’s game day at The Swamp! Canes beat Gators 38-10

CORAL GABLES, Florida. – Hurricanes fans traveled to Gainesville on Saturday afternoon to attend their first game of the season at The Swamp in Gainesville.

In the first quarter, the Canes started out outscoring the Gators 7-3. In the second quarter, the Canes scored 17 more touchdowns and their rival 7 more, but The U still won 24-10. The third quarter continued with the Canes scoring 14 more touchdowns.

University of Miami’s Mario Cristobal and University of Florida’s Billy Napier gave it their all at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Canes were slight favorites over Florida, while the Gators were hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 5-7 season.

“Every day, every week, every month we get closer to what Miami should look like,” Cristobal said during a recent interview in Coral Gables.

The 19th-ranked Canes enter the third year of the Cristobal era with high expectations after another highly touted recruiting class. This opener also marks the first game as a Hurricane for quarterback Cam Ward, who transferred from Washington State. He was a game-leader in the first quarter.

Other Saturday football games include: Florida International University vs. Indiana State at 3:30 p.m.; Ave Maria University vs. Stetson at 6:00 p.m.; South Carolina State vs. Florida A&M at 6:00 p.m.; and Bethune-Cookman vs. the University of South Florida at 7:00 p.m.
