It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni didn’t know the rooftop scene with Blake Lively was ‘actually written’ by Ryan Reynolds

Justin Baldoni reportedly had no idea that his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively had involved her husband Ryan Reynolds in their film.

Despite boasting that her husband “wrote” the “iconic rooftop scene” at the beginning of the film, telling E! News during a red carpet interview, a source claims Baldoni, 40, was kept completely in the dark about Reynolds’ contribution.

An insider told Variety that the revelation “was news to Baldoni, who thought the scene was improvised by Lively.”

The publication noted that “WGA did not respond to a request for comment on whether Reynolds’ work constitutes a guild violation that could lead to a credits issue.”

Still, the outlet points out, “films can have uncredited writers,” but “it’s rare that the director isn’t aware of it.”

A source also told the newspaper that “there is probably no place in the world where these two will ever work together again.”

DailyMail.com has contacted Lively and Baldoni’s representatives for comment but has not yet heard back.

Previously, Christy Hall, who served as a screenwriter on It Ends With Us, told People that she was unaware that Reynolds had made any changes to the script.

“There were a couple of little things that I thought were improvised. Like when he said, ‘Pretty please with a cherry on top,’ and she was talking about the maraschino cherries. When I saw a little bit of it, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s cute. That must have been a cute improvised thing.’ So when I’m told Ryan wrote that, that’s amazing, how amazing.”

She added that she noticed “a few little embellishments” that she didn’t write herself, but “assumed they were improvised on set.”

“But again, like I said, the moments that I felt needed to be honored are there,” she added. “So I recognize the scene and I’m proud of the scene. And if those decorations came from Ryan, I think that’s great.”

Hall admitted that the rooftop scene was “probably the trickiest to tackle” because it “fits perfectly into the novel.”

“My first attempt at that scene was really trying to honor what Colleen wrote, almost word for word,” she explained.

“I really, really tried my best, because I just think she did it best. The hard part about that scene is that it’s long.”

While promoting the film, Lively revealed that the 47-year-old Deadpool actor helped write the film’s “iconic rooftop scene.”

“My husband wrote it. No one knows that except you,” Blake, the film’s star and producer, told E! News at the premiere in New York City earlier this month.

The actress — who recently had a cameo as Ladypool in Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine film — added: “We help each other. He works on everything I do; I work on everything he does. So his victories, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”

It Ends With Us is based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 bestseller.
