India wins thrilling match against Sri Lanka in Super Over to completely whitewash neighbours

Team India completely outplayed Sri Lanka to win the third and final T20 encounter between the teams at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday after winning the match by a super over!

India scored a total of 137 runs in 20 overs before restricting Sri Lanka to the exact score at the end of the second innings. The Men in Blue scalped two Lankan wickets in the Super Over for two runs before Suryakumar Yadav swept the ball to the ropes to end the match in style.

The match was delayed by an hour due to bad weather and a wet outfield, as Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka elected to field first after winning the toss. The decision paid off immediately as Maheesh Theekshana scalped Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 10 runs in the second over.

Sanju Samson, who had taken a duck in his previous outing, had another night to forget when he was dismissed without opening his account by Chamindu Wickramasinghe. Rinku Singh, who had been promoted up the order, fared little better that day when he was scalped after chipping in with just one run by Theekshana.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat to stabilise the collapsing Indian innings, but managed only 8 runs before being sent back by Asitha Fernando.

Shivam Dube scored another 13 runs before being caught by Kusal Mendis off an over from Ramesh Mendis.

Riyan Parag and Shubman Gill steadied the ship with their 54-run stand that also took India past the 100-run mark. Gill, India’s top scorer on the day with 39, however, wasted his wicket when he was stumped by Mendis after a Wanindu Hasaranga turner. The Sri Lankan spinner doubled his total in the same over when he also dismissed Parag after the Indian had made 26 runs.

Washington Sundar added a vital 25 runs from his willow before being swept aside by Theekshana as the spinner took his three-fer. Ravi Bishnoi remained unbeaten on 8 runs before Mohammed Siraj was swept aside by Kusal Mendis on the last ball of the innings as India managed to reach a total of 137 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka opened the chase with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, who put on 58 runs for the first wicket before the former was bowled out by Bishnoi for 26.

Kusal Perera came in to replace his fallen team-mate and put in a solid stand alongside his namesake to guide Sri Lanka to triple figures. Mendis was held seven runs shy of his half-century by Bishnoi before Sundar scalped Hasaranga and Asalanka in successive deliveries to help India mount a late challenge.
