Improved Box Score: Cubs 10, Dodgers 4 – September 9, 2024

For one night in Los Angeles, the Cubs looked like a star-studded team. The best offensive performances came from guys wearing Cubbie blue, not Dodger blue, and two of them were even sidelined by the latter. It was fun to see what that could look like, if only for one night.

Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch were hugely important at bat from the start (they shared the Ankin Law “Making it Personal” Player of the Game award), though each starter had at least one hit in the victory.

The Cubs’ pitchers were able to move through traffic well enough to keep the Dodgers in check. Sure, the Ohtani-Betts-Freeman trio eventually got their share—they almost always will—but the rest of the lineup went 5 for 25 with no walks and no extra-base hits. That’s the recipe.

Kyle Hendricks gave the Cubs four competitive innings, which isn’t ideal but also gave them a chance. Kudos to the bullpen for covering the rest of the game, with a special shout out to Keegan Thompson who may have settled back into that all-important bridge role.

Full score.
