Ilona Maher had the time of her life on ‘DWTS’ last night. Here’s how she did it

Emmys: Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik Talk ‘DWTS’ and More

U.S. Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik talk to USA TODAY’s Ralphie Aversa about life after the Paris Games at the Emmys.

Olympic rugby medalist Ilona Maher had the time of her life last night when she performed a dance move inspired by “Dirty Dancing” on “Dancing with the Stars.”

The Burlington native danced in the show’s second round after not having any eliminations during last week’s premiere.

This week, all the stars performed a song from a popular Hollywood movie during Oscars Night.

Maher and her professional partner Alan Bersten danced a salsa to a hit from “Dirty Dancing.”

“Salsa is a fun, energetic, playful dance,” Bersten said. “It’s the perfect dance for Ilona to show her personality and confidence.”

This is how she did it.

What song did Ilona Maher dance to at the ‘DWTS’ Oscars?

Ilona Maher and her partner Alan Bersten danced salsa to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes for Oscars Night on last night’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Inspired by the original “Dirty Dancing” routine to the song, Maher and Bersten performed the iconic dance from the film with their own twist.

Instead of Bersten just lifting Maher like Johnny lifts Baby in the famous scene from the film, the rugby star’s dance also includes a second lift where Maher lifts Bersten.

“Everyone on the Internet was saying they wanted me to pick Alan up, and I think he was like, ‘Let’s do it,’” Maher said after the dance.

Lifting is common in rugby, but Maher said she doesn’t normally get lifted in the sport, so it was “difficult but a lot of fun” to entrust Bersten with the move. The judges praised the duo’s creativity.

“Not only was that a moment that people will talk about for years to come, but you’re also reframing the entire conversation, you’re changing the conversation about what womanhood is,” said Carrie Ann Inaba.

How did Ilona Maher score last night on ‘DWTS’?

Ilona Maher scored a 21/30 for her salsa on “Dancing with the Stars” last night. All the judges gave her sevens out of ten.

With her scores from the first week, Maher’s total for the evening was 39/60. She placed seventh overall among the other pairs.

Who was eliminated from ‘DWTS’ last night?

Last night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” ended with a double elimination, sending former con artist Anna Delvey and actress Tori Spelling home.

Elimination was determined by a combination of the judges’ scores from the first two weeks and viewer votes.

How to Stream or Watch ‘DWTS’ Live

“Dancing with the Stars” airs live Tuesday nights on ABC and Disney+. It is also available to stream the following day on Hulu.

There will be no new episode next week, so two episodes will air the following week: Monday, October 7 at 8:00 PM EST and Tuesday, October 8 at 8:00 PM EST.
