Argentina will face Chile in Buenos Aires on Thursday, qualifying the world champions for the 2026 tournament.

This is Argentina’s first match since winning the Copa América for the second time in a row last summer, when Lionel Scaloni’s team defeated Colombia 1-0 in the final in July.

Argentina have made a good start to qualifying for the World Cup and are top of the CONMEBOL rankings after winning five of their first six matches.

Chile, on the other hand, have only five points from their first six games. The Red are in eighth place, with only Bolivia and Peru below them.

Argentina and Chile met in the group stage of the Copa América, with Argentina winning 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Lautaro Martínez. That defeat helped Chile exit the group stage.

There will be one notable absentee for Argentina in this match, with Lionel Messi missing the international break as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Here’s everything you need to know before the match starts.
