But Berlanga is not without hope. The 27-year-old Puerto Rican upstart, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, began his career with 16 straight knockouts — all in the first round. The streak ended in 2021 when he won a unanimous decision over Demond Nicholson, and Berlanga has since won four more by decision. He returned to his knockout ways in February, submitting Padraig McCrory in the sixth round. Berlanga has held the NABO super middleweight title since 2021.

Berlanga’s only chance against the vastly more successful Canelo is to knock the champion out early — something no one has come close to doing. In his 65 professional fights, Alvarez has never been knocked out or stopped.
