Heavy storms tonight and heavy rain on Tuesday; slightly cooler and sunny on Wednesday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) — The area is under a storm warning due to the potential for severe storms and locally heavy rainfall Tuesday evening.

A cold front is located in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. This element will move toward our area later this evening and Tuesday night. This system will produce showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could become strong to severe, with damaging winds and hail being the biggest threats. Heavy rainfall is also likely along this line, with most of the area seeing 0.50 inches with locally higher totals. The timing for these storms will be between 8:00 PM CDT and 2:00 AM. Highs before these storms arrive will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s, with lows dropping into the 50s and 60s. Winds are expected to be gusty, with speeds around 15 to 25 mph.

During the day Wednesday through Thursday, temperatures will cool to the mid to upper 80s with mostly sunny skies. Friday through Monday of next week, a low pressure area will develop and slowly move through the region. This will bring favorable rainfall to the area. Highs will drop into the 60s and 70s, giving the area a fall-like feel.
