‘He can do something with the ball’

The 2024 season kicks off for the Kansas City Chiefs, who take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis shares his thoughts on bringing undrafted rookie Carson Steele to the team after impressing everyone during training camp and the pre-season.

“I think he’s a little bit more than a fullback. He’s athletic and he can do some things with the ball in his hands,” Kelce said. “Plus, he’s a special teams guy. A ‘whatever you want me to do’ coach.”

Joining a Chiefs team looking to build a three-peat full of veterans like Kelce, Steele describes the mindset heading into the new season.

“You don’t get to the Super Bowl by thinking about winning the Super Bowl; you get to the Super Bowl by slowly creating this routine of success ‒ week in and week out,” Kelce said. “We know it’s a process that you have to go through. You can’t peak too early. You can’t look so far ahead and just assume you’re going to get there.”

Kansas City’s team this season has a healthy mix of veterans and young players focused on returning to another Super Bowl. Kelce understands it will be another long battle that can’t be accomplished in one week.
