Glenn Maxwell unfollows RCB on social media, hints at IPL 2025 relocation

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided to leave Royal Challengers Bengaluru after a flop show in IPL 2024. He has unfollowed the franchise on Instagram in a clear signal that he is willing to play for a new franchise in IPL 2025. He has been a regular for the team in the past few years and has played good knockout performances.

In 10 innings, Maxwell managed to score just 52 runs for RCB in IPL 2024. He took a break from matches due to mental fatigue but returned after a while. Maxwell could not contribute and RCB paid a heavy price for their faith in his abilities as the franchise failed to end their title drought.

He has failed to prove himself in the big-money competition and some former players call him the most overrated player in the tournament’s history.

Despite being one of Australia’s most consistent players in white-ball cricket, Maxwell has yet to show his class in the IPL.

Faf du Plessis’ captaincy is also under threat. In his first season as captain, RCB reached the third spot. Faf was the team’s highest run-scorer in 2023. In IPL 2024, RCB recorded six consecutive wins to reach the play-offs, where Rajasthan Royals knocked them out.

There will be a lot of discussions before players are retained for the 18th season. Virat Kohli is the only cricketer who is certain of being retained.
