Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to Raise Funds for Trump in Atlanta on Thursday: Sources

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is expected to headline a fundraiser for former President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign in Atlanta on Thursday, along with first lady Marty Kemp and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, multiple sources told ABC News.

It’s a sign that Kemp is committed to re-electing Trump, despite their public disagreement. While Kemp says he’s committed to getting the entire Republican ticket elected, he previously admitted he didn’t vote for Trump in the state’s primary.

Kemp’s expected participation in the fundraiser, which was first reported by ABC News, comes after Trump publicly praised the Republican governor last week, following a preview of an interview he gave on FOX News after months of criticizing Kemp and his family over Kemp’s refusal to cave to the former president’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“Thank you to #BrianKempGA for all your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so critical to the success of our party and, more importantly, our country,” Trump wrote on X last Thursday.

Before the accolades, Trump spent his last rally in Georgia blasting Kemp for not doing enough to continue his reelection campaign in the state. He even lashed out at Kemp’s wife for saying she would vote for Kemp instead of Trump.

“He’s a bad guy, a disloyal guy and a very average governor. Little Brian. Little Brian Kemp. Bad guy… and all he had to do was sign something that the Senate wants to look into the integrity of the election,” Trump said at his campaign rally in Atlanta earlier this month.

“Think about the woman. ‘We can never repay you for what you did, sir. We could never have won.’ And now she said, two weeks ago, ‘I will not support him because he did not earn my support.’ I did not earn her support? I have nothing to do with her,” Trump continued.

The fundraiser, which took the form of a cocktail party, was originally to be hosted by Pompeo. However, Kemp and his wife were added as co-headliners after Kemp’s supporters attending the fundraiser invited and urged him to attend.

A source familiar with Kemp’s fundraising efforts told ABC News that several governors at a recent Republican Governors Association meeting in Aspen said Kemp had a “very supportive tone” toward Trump and that he had “support from those key states.”

“There is a lot of excitement in Georgia knowing that President Trump and Governor Kemp have agreed to work together as they have in the past to achieve victories that are important for the future of the country and the future of the people of Georgia,” the source said.

The fundraiser is being hosted and co-hosted by former Trump State Department official Ulrich Brechbuhl, former Ambs. Duke Buchan and Ed McMullen, and former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, all of whom have been active fundraisers for Trump’s campaign this election cycle.
