    Texas A&M football plays Notre Dame on Saturday night in primetime in one of the most important games of Week 1 of the college football season.

    The No. 20 Aggies will take on the No. 7 Fighting Irish in College Station, Texas, home of ESPN’s “College GameDay” in Week 1. Former Texas A&M quarterback and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel will also be on site as a guest celebrity on the show.

    Texas A&M is in its first season under new coach Mike Elko, a former Aggies defensive coordinator who was hired from Duke this offseason. Elko brought in an influx of talent through the transfer portal and returns former five-star quarterback Conner Weigman, who suffered a season-ending injury against Auburn in last season’s SEC opener.

    Notre Dame, meanwhile, is led by Duke transfer quarterback Riley Leonard, a dynamic doubles player who played under Elko for the Blue Devils last season.

    Both teams are hopeful for the new 12-team College Football Playoff, and a convincing non-conference win could help them achieve their goals.
