Former Texans QB Deshaun Watson charged, accused of sexually abusing Houston single mother

HOUSTON – A new lawsuit filed Monday afternoon in Harris County accuses former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexually assaulting a Houston-area woman in October 2020.

That woman is now suing him, seeking at least a million dollars. She is being represented by Tony Buzbee’s law firm.

The lawsuit alleges that she and Watson met at a bar in the Galleria neighborhood in July 2020. One of his friends approached her and said Watson wanted her phone number. Flattered, she gave it to the friend, and the woman and Watson texted each other on and off for months.

In October 202, Watson asked the woman to meet him at the Galleria. She turned him down because she was reluctant to be seen with him in public, and invited him to dinner at her apartment. She “was unaware of Watson’s proclivities,” the complaint said.

When he arrived at her apartment for their date, he called the woman “aggressively yelling and screaming” because he couldn’t find her apartment and “didn’t have time for this.”

Watson arrived and the woman asked him to sit in her living room while she finished her makeup. To relieve the tension from his “angry outburst,” she tried to make conversation with him while he was in the other room, but he did not respond.

She walked out of the bathroom to see why he was so quiet and found him “shockingly completely naked on her bed, lying face down on his stomach,” the complaint said.

Watson “aggressively” insisted she massage him, pointing to his buttocks. She asked if he meant his back, but says Watson indicated he wanted his buttocks massaged. She rubbed his back because she was “terrified at this point in the encounter,” the complaint says.

Watson wanted her to massage his buttocks and frustrated that she was only massaging his back, Watson turned around and showed an erection. He again demanded that she massage him from his knees to his groin.

“Jane Doe froze in fear, unsure of how to repel Watson’s advances without endangering her own safety. Confused and frightened, she repeated to Watson that she was not a masseur.”

Watson asked what she wanted to do and before she could answer, he grabbed her and raped her, the complaint states.

She felt paralyzed and wasn’t sure if she should risk her safety by trying to stop him, but she managed to get away from him and ran to her dresser to grab a heavy piece of decor to defend herself and yelled at him to get out of her apartment. She said he was engaged when he left her apartment.

According to the complaint, the woman was initially hesitant to come forward because she knew he was a local celebrity and feared she would be humiliated and publicly attacked if she reported what had happened.

“She later saw other women come forward and was encouraged and willing to come forward as well. However, she saw how the women who had similar experiences to Watson and who came forward were treated by Watson’s defense team and the public; this was disheartening to Jane Doe,” the lawsuit said.

She eventually approached Watson to resolve the issues without filing a lawsuit, but those efforts failed.

This is the first lawsuit against Watson specifically accusing him of sexual assault. Watson previously faced nearly two dozen lawsuits filed by massage therapists, accusing them of harassing, assaulting or touching them during appointments while he played for the Houston Texans. In July 2022, 30 women who accused the Texans of turning a blind eye to allegations against their former starting quarterback settled their claims against the team.

The woman in the new lawsuit filed Monday said she suffered severe mental anguish, panic attacks, nervous breakdowns and difficulty sleeping. She also suffered from depression and anxiety.

She is seeking actual and punitive damages, some of which have no cap but would amount to at least $1 million, the lawsuit says.

She also asks for a jury trial and that Watson pay all legal fees.
