Many former Vancouver Canucks have gone on to successful careers around the world after leaving the organization. Whether they played for some of the best teams in Europe or excelled in non-traditional hockey markets, these former Canucks continue to ply their trade outside of North America. Today, we look at Anton Rödin, who spent the 2023-24 season with Brynäs IF in the HockeyAllsvenskan.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Rödin during his time with Vancouver. Originally selected in the second round of the 2009 draft, Rödin made his debut with the Canucks on December 23, 2016. He played three games for Vancouver during the 2016-17 season. Unfortunately, the former SHL MVP was unable to stick around at the NHL level, leaving North America for good during the 2017-18 season.

After a season and a half in the NL, Rödin returned to Sweden and signed with Brynäs IF in 2019. Brynäs IF was the organization Rödin played for when he won the SHL MVP in 2016, so this was a homecoming for him. In his first season back, Rödin led Brynäs IF with 46 points, which also placed him fourth in the entire SHL.

Rödin has remained with Brynäs IF for the past five seasons. The team was relegated to the HockeyAllsvenskan at the end of the 2022-23 season, but won the championship last season and was promoted back to the SHL for the upcoming season. Rödin played a major role in helping Brynäs IF return to the SHL. He finished the regular season with 43 points and added 11 points in 13 games during the postseason.

Now 33, Rödin will reach some major milestones next season. He is four games away from his 400th in the SHL, while he is only 20 points shy of 300. While it may not have worked out in the NHL, Rödin has had a very impressive career and has become one of the most successful players in Brynäs IF history.
