Former Arizona State star named to list of greatest college football players of the 21st century

The revamped Big 12 Conference would have been all but omitted from ESPN’s list of the 25 greatest college football teams of the 21st century if it weren’t for one of the league’s newest additions, the Pac-12 Conference.

Former Arizona State defensive end Terrell Suggs was listed at No. 11. He is one of two Big 12 players to make the list, along with Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, who came in at No. 21.

From ESPN: “After a stellar pair of seasons in 2000 and 2001, the 6-3, 265-pound Suggs put together perhaps the greatest defensive season ever by a man not named Suh. In 2002, the man recorded 24 sacks and 31 total TFLs. He finished his career with 46 total sacks, the most of anyone in the 2000s, and he recorded 139 sacks (he hit double figures seven times) in an NFL career that spanned 17 years.”

Suggs was a unanimous All-American in 2002, when he won the Lombardi Award, and was also named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 10 pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, he played for 17 seasons, winning two Super Bowls and being named the 2003 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and the 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
