The first trailer for Disney’s Lightning bolts begins with Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, a depressed assassin who reunites with her sleazy father, Alexei (David Harbour).

She laments that her life is empty, despite being busy with dangerous assassins. But purpose quickly returns to Yelena’s life, as the action-packed teaser soon has her encountering some of Marvel’s darkest characters.

“Everyone here has done bad things… So someone wants us to leave,” Jelena tells her fellow antiheroes, including John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) at one point in the trailer — as they’re threatened with elimination after completing previous jobs for an unknown villain.

“This could turn into chaos,” Jelena warns her fellow criminals in the teaser for the action film, which features the tagline, “Be careful who you gather.”

The trailer also offers a look at Lewis Pullman (Bob) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Val), who greet Marvel’s team of suddenly expendable characters.

Lightning bolts was hit by delays last year due to writers’ and actors’ strikes, with the latest release date set for May 2, 2025. With production on hold following the labor strikes in Los Angeles, Geraldine Viswanathan replaced Ayo Edebiri and Top Gun: Maverick Actor Pullman replaced Steven Yeun in the superhero film due to scheduling issues.

This Marvel collaboration also stars Sebastian Stan and David Harbour, with Jake Schreier directing and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing.

Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez and Scarlett Johansson serve as executive producers.
