first MLB 50-50 season and best game ever?

Shohei Ohtani somehow still manages to surprise us.

The most uniquely gifted player in baseball history accomplished the feat (again) in unforgettable fashion, becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season, while becoming the first player to hit three home runs and steal two bases in a game during the Dodgers’ 20-4 win at Miami. Ohtani went 6-for-6, added two doubles and collected 10 RBIs.

The two-time MVP — and all but assured of a third-place finish by becoming the first full-time DH to win the award — has nine games left to add to his current totals of 51 home runs and 51 stolen bases. Six of the Dodgers’ final nine games come against the Rockies (who have MLB’s worst team ERA), and the regular season ends at Coors Field, the league’s most hitter-friendly stadium.

Ohtani set a new home run record for the legendary franchise, which was founded in Brooklyn in 1883. The Japanese superstar will soon make his playoff debut.
