A severe thunderstorm that passed through Evanston shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday evening caused trees to be felled in several areas.

Two cars were damaged when a tree fell on Church Street, just east of Hinman Avenue, completely blocking the street.

Another fallen tree blocked Judson Avenue between Church Street and Davis Street.

There were several other reports of fallen trees blocking streets, including on Sherman Avenue north of Foster Street and on Pratt Court and Maple Avenues north of Foster Street.

Heavy rainfall from the storm temporarily flooded several streets east of the city center, near the lakeshore.

At 7:40 p.m., ComEd reported power outages near Leon Place and Ridge Avenue and at a building on Church Street east of Orrington Avenue.

In total, fewer than 60 customers were reported without power in Evanston. But the utility reported more than 500 outages in total, with 32,000 customers affected systemwide.

City spokeswoman Cynthia Vargas says residents should report downed power lines to 911 and downed trees or other storm damage to 311. The 311 center reopened Tuesday evening to take such calls.
