Everything Apple announced today: iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, new AirPods

It’s Apple Day, and the company’s Glowtime event just dimmed the lights. There was a bunch of new hardware announced today: a line of new iPhones, a new Apple Watch and some improvements to the current models, and some fresh AirPods with new features. There was also more talk about the company’s upcoming Apple Intelligence features coming to iOS 18.

This is everything Apple showed today.

The iPhone 16 gets new buttons and larger sizes

The iPhone 16 won’t feel dramatically different from last year’s models. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus now have a vertically-aligned camera module (instead of a diagonal one), and they now feature Apple’s Action Button, which debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro. That button replaces the long-standing Mute switch, and while you can program the customizable Action Button to replicate that functionality, you can (more conveniently) configure the button to perform different tasks, like turning on a flashlight or launching the camera.

The new camera control button is sensitive to touch and pressure, giving you precise control over your camera’s behavior.

Thanks to Apple

Also new to all iPhone 16 models is a Camera Control button. Like the shutter button on a full-frame camera, it responds to varying degrees of pressure. A light press keeps focus on iPhone 16 Pro models, or you can slide your finger to swipe through zoom levels. A firmer press takes a photo, and a longer press takes video.

As for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, well, they’re a bit bigger! Apple has shaved off the bezels around the display to allow for larger screens – 6.3 and 6.9 inches (up from 6.1 and 6.7). There are a bunch of other minor upgrades to these phones too, including the fact that 5x optical zoom now makes it to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. You can read more about the iPhone 16 lineup in our detailed look at these new iPhones.

Pre-orders start on September 13. The iPhone 16 will cost $799, the iPhone 16 Plus will cost $899, the iPhone 16 Pro will cost $999 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will cost $1,199. All go on sale on September 20. —Julian Chokkattu

It’s the 10th anniversary of the original Apple Watch, and to celebrate the milestone, Apple has redesigned the newest addition to the lineup, the Watch Series 10. For starters, it’s significantly lighter and thinner than its predecessor, the Series 9. It has the largest display ever on an Apple Watch, with 30 percent more screen area, making it even bigger than the massive Apple Watch Ultra series. This new display also features more rounded edges and a wider-angled OLED display, making it easier to see when you’re not looking at the screen head-on.

The new watch comes in an absolutely gorgeously sleek jet black that’s been polished with silicon nanoparticles, making it reflective. Among other tweaks to make it thinner, the speaker system has been redesigned, allowing you to play podcasts directly through the Apple Watch’s speakers. There’s also a more efficient charging coil, helping the watch charge up to 80 percent of its battery in 30 minutes. (There’s no word on how much better the battery life is, if at all.)
