Smith caught a pass from Jalen Hurts in the second half when several New Orleans Saints players tackled him, but they were unable to initially contain him.

As they were still trying to get him to the ground, Smith was still shaking when defenseman Kristian Boyd hit him from behind, hitting his helmet against his helmet. Smith’s helmet flew off his head.

It was a terrifying situation with no flag on the field for helmet-to-helmet contact, which led to anger from fans on social media, who felt it was a “dirty” hit. Some also felt Smith shouldn’t have been in the incident at all, as he was making progress by running backwards while the other Saints tried to tackle him.

Smith was seen lying on the field after receiving a blow to the head. He remained there for several minutes as players and coaches knelt on the field, hoping that everything would be okay.

Smith walked to the sideline under his own power and was later evaluated for a concussion.

The “Slim Reaper,” as he is called by Eagles fans, left the game with 79 yards on seven catches.

It’s a serious injury for Philadelphia, which entered this game for the second straight week without receiver AJ Brown due to a hamstring injury.

It’s too early to say whether Smith will clear the NFL’s concussion protocol and be ready for next week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that defeated them in last year’s wild card game.

With Smith out, Hurts leaned on other receivers, such as tight end Dallas Goedert, who led the game with 170 yards on 10 catches, and Jahan Dotson to finally score some points in the fourth quarter.

The decisive score came on a two-minute warning play, in which Hurts made a 61-yard catch-and-run with Goedert to the New Orleans 4-yard line on 3rd-and-16 after the tight end was left all alone on the field.

Saquon Barkley, who made the crucial dropped pass for the Eagles on Monday against the visiting Atlanta Falcons, who surprised Philly, broke into the end zone on the next play to give the Eagles the lead. He would also add two points on a conversion.
