Dozens expected to protest outside Supreme Court ahead of Missouri man’s execution

In a final request for a stay of the execution of Missouri’s Marcellus Williams, dozens of people plan to gather outside the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday morning.

The group was scheduled to meet at 7 a.m. in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., to march to the Supreme Court building to protest Williams’ placement on death row.

Williams will be put to death Tuesday afternoon for the 1998 murder of Lisha Gayle after Missouri’s governor and the Supreme Court rejected requests for clemency so a lower court could consider new information, the Associated Press reported.

Williams, 55, has always maintained his innocence and his case is being defended by the Midwest Innocence Project.

According to the Associated Press, Williams’ execution would be the third to take place in Missouri this year.
