Dolphins will be without key player Raheem Mostert against rival Bills

The Dolphins will be without Raheem Mostert (chest injury) for their Thursday Night Football game against the Bills at Hard Rock Stadium, but don’t expect him to be out long.

Mostert was the Dolphins’ leading rusher in 2023 but had just six carries for nine yards in the season opener against the Jaguars on Sunday.

The star player was still struggling with a chest injury this week and therefore missed training on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it won’t be a permanent injury.

Mostert is not expected to go on the injured list, and the NFL insider indicated the running back “should be back sooner rather than later.”

Running back De’Von Achane, who has been a question mark all week due to an ankle injury, will also play Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

It’s the 13th NFL game for the running back in his second year since being drafted in the third round by the Dolphins last year.

Against the Jaguars in Week 1, he had seven catches for 75 yards and ran for 25 yards with a touchdown on 10 carries.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, rookie Jaylen Wright is also expected to be active in the game along with Achane.

He was inactive in Week 1, but in an interview with the Miami Herald published Thursday, Wright indicated he was confident he would make the most of every opportunity.

“Preparation creates opportunity, so I’m just prepared and ready for when that moment comes,” Wright said. “I’m confident that I’m going to take advantage of that opportunity.”

During preseason training, Wright rushed for 91 yards and scored a touchdown on 17 attempts in two games.

He suffered a lower leg injury after the Dolphins’ practice game against the Buccaneers on August 23.

Veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. could also be an option for the Dolphins after he ran for 26 yards on five attempts in Week 1.
