Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered another terrifying “Thursday Night Football” moment when he suffered a concussion after taking a hard hit from Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

It took the Dolphins’ medical staff just six minutes after Tagovailoa left the field on his own to determine that the signal-caller had a concussion.

On 4th-and-4, with the Dolphins needing a touchdown to stay in the game, Tagovailoa stepped forward in the pocket and ran to pass the sticks and keep the drive alive.

Despite crossing the first-down line, Tagovailoa kept running and met Hamlin in the open field, leading with his head instead of sliding. It didn’t take much for Hamlin to take him down, as Tagovailoa immediately fell to the ground and hit his head on the grass at Hard Rock Stadium.

Tagovailoa picked up the first down, but it appeared it would come at a hefty price as he raised his hand to ask a teammate to pick him up.

DOLPHINS’ TUA TAGOVAILOA CONSIDERED RETIREMENT ‘FOR A WHILE’ AFTER HIS MULTIPLE CONCUSSION

But Tagovailoa appeared disoriented as his hand began to shake uncontrollably and he held his head as Dolphins began to gather around him. Players from both the Bills and Dolphins knelt down on one knee as medical personnel rushed out to assess the quarterback.

After talking to him, Tagovailoa eventually walked away on his strength, but he was clearly limping. Instead of going to the blue medical tent, Tagovailoa walked off the court with trainers to the locker room, where they determined he did indeed have a concussion.

Tagovailoa didn’t miss a game in 2023, but 2022 was a season with some scary moments for the left-handed quarterback. He suffered three concussions, including one during Thursday Night Football’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he left the field on a stretcher.

Tagovailoa appeared to have suffered a concussion in the previous game against the Bills, but it was determined he had a back injury, which caused him to stumble after hitting his head on the ground during a play.

Just days later, in Week 4 against the Bengals, Tagaovailoa was thrown to the turf of Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. A disturbing scene unfolded as his hands behaved in a way that sometimes accompanies head injuries that cause the fingers to curl.

Players on the field prayed as Tagovailoa was carried off the field on a stretcher. He would miss two games before eventually returning in Week 7.

In Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa suffered his third concussion of the season, which put him out for the rest of the year.

In the offseason, the Hawaii native admitted there was a time he considered retiring because of the way head injuries can impact a person’s life, given the research done on CTE. But he was confident heading into last season and proved it by playing every game.

Now we’ll see if and when Tagovailoa will pass the concussion protocol.

Before his injury, Tagovailoa threw three interceptions, one of which was returned for a pick-six, and one touchdown to De’Von Achane.
