Dodgers Notes: Mookie Betts at 2B, Miguel Rojas Removed from Lineup

The Dodgers’ lineup against the Marlins looked a little different than normal on Wednesday, with a few notable changes.

Mookie Betts is back at second base facing left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers, his first start at the position since May 29 and his first start in the infield since returning from the injured list in August.

Betts’ first 32 starts back were in right field, where he played every inning except one at second base late in the game on Aug. 14 at Milwaukee. Betts also has started 61 games at shortstop this season, and Wednesday will mark his 12th start at second base.

Miguel Rojas was originally in the lineup but was cut. Instead, Edman was moved from center field to shortstop, with Andy Pages getting the call at center field.

Betts at second base in place of Gavin Lux opened the door for a lineup of seven right-handed batters (including switch-hitter Tommy Edman) against the left-handed Weathers, plus left-handed mainstays Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. Chris Taylor got the call in left field with Teoscar Hernández moving to right field, and Kiké Hernández at third base in place of Max Muncy.

Lux is 7-for-44 with a .411 OPS and 22 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this season. Muncy is 9-for-59 with five homers and two doubles against southpaws with a .722 OPS and 102 wRC+. Since returning from the injured list in August, Muncy is just 3-for-22 (.136) against left-handed pitching, though all three of those hits have been home runs.
