Destruction in Florida as Milton makes landfall

Hurricane Milton ripped through Florida, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake as winds reached 125 miles per hour in parts of the state.

Tornadoes also caused serious damage, especially on the Atlantic coast, reports Tom Bateman, the BBC’s North American correspondent.

In St. Petersburg, strong winds tore off the roof of the Tropicana Field stadium. It was used as a shelter for first responders, but no injuries were reported, according to local media.

The hurricane also caused huge waves in the Gulf of Mexico.
