Cool and dry for now – Boston News, Weather, Sports

Although we had a fair amount of cloud yesterday, it was also a mostly dry day with isolated showers coming off the coast. With the wind blowing steadily from the northeast, it was a cool day with highs in the mid 60s, slightly below average for the time of year and more of an early to mid October feel to the air.

Today it is cloudy again, with temperatures around 17 degrees, some sun now and then and an occasional shower. It is a mainly dry day.

Wednesday will be similar in terms of temperature, as highs will be in the mid to high 60s. Expect more clouds than sun, but also many more dry hours. Although a few showers will move inland in the afternoon, many of us will stay dry.

The chance of rain increases from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening, as showers and thunderstorms are possible. 1.3 to 2.5 centimeters of rain can fall during this period, so all in all a good drink of water for the lawn and gardens.

Friday and Monday look mostly dry, as moisture from the tropics remains in the south and southwest.

In the tropics…

PTC #9 (potential tropical cyclone) has not yet organized enough to become the next named storm of the season, but is likely to do so over the western Caribbean over the next 24 hours. As the storm moves through the Yucatan Channel and eastern Gulf of Mexico, rapid strengthening is possible with a likely hurricane moving west of Tampa and into the Big Bend area Thursday afternoon/evening. All eyes from the west coast of Florida to the Panhandle will be watching this closely as a major hurricane is possible. Here is the latest from the National Hurricane Center.
