Concord players jump off cliffs in the game as they desperately battle for the Platinum Trophy before being eliminated

Sony’s shock announcement of Concord’s closure just two weeks after the game went on sale has sent remaining players into overdrive, in a desperate attempt to secure the Platinum trophy before it’s too late.

PlayStation Studios’ ill-fated first-person hero shooter, which suffered from a drastically low player base at launch, is going away on September 6, with all players getting a refund. Ryan Ellis, director at Sony developer Firewalk, said: “While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t resonate as we intended.”

Shortly after that announcement, reports indicated that Concord players were throwing Rivalry matches in an attempt to earn experience as quickly as possible. In Rivalry mode, two teams of five players battle for dominance in best-of-seven single-life rounds. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. Now, players start a match and immediately run off a platform to their doom, resulting in a win for the other team and the end of the round.

Rivalry matches are the perfect choice for this tactic. Win or lose, it rewards players with more experience points than other game modes. And because it’s the best-of-seven single-life rounds, you can finish a match in just a few minutes, as long as the entire team is in and each round lasts about 30 seconds. Again, as long as all players are in and you win or lose four games in a row.

So, this is the fastest way to earn experience in Concord, and therefore the fastest way to earn that Platinum trophy (you’ll need to reach reputation level 100, which costs hundreds of thousands of XP), with only two days left before the game ends. Be warned, though: your win rate will drop if you keep intentionally losing. Maybe that’s not such a big deal considering Concord’s impending doom.

IGN has verified that Rivalry matches are currently being played this way. The race is, it seems, well underway.

Some Concord players are saying that there isn’t enough time to earn the Platinum trophy, so it might elude them. Others are hoping that Concord will return in free-to-play form, though there’s no guarantee it will return at all. As a result, the Concord Platinum trophy could go down as one of the rarest in PlayStation history.

What is clear is that Concord itself is one of the biggest flops in PlayStation history, a game that one developer said he spent a whopping eight years working on. There are now concerns about the fate of its developer, Firewalk, and Sony faces tough questions over its upcoming live service games, including Bungie’s Marathon and Haven’s Fairgame$, neither of which have release dates.

The launch of Concord was a complete disaster, with Analysts tell IGN that only 25,000 copies were likely sold. It debuted with a tragic peak of 697 concurrent players on Steam, a number that dwarfed the 12,786 players of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was called a disappointment by Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav And caused a $200 million drop in revenueresemble a titan.

Last year, Sony president Hiroki Totoki said committed to launching only six of the twelve live service games in development, and one based on The Last of Us has already been cancelled.
