‘Claim to Fame’ Stars Hud and Mackenzie Reveal Dating Status

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Claim to fame Season 3 Finale, “Blood, Sweat and Returning Similars.”

Forget Jack and Diane, here’s a song about Hud and Mackenzie.

The Claim to fame stars have been flirting all season long on the reality show. Hud first got Mackenzie’s temperature up in the premiere after he showed off his physical prowess in a talent show. The pair quickly became allies in the game – allies who flirt and bump into each other while talking – until the finale where they both lost to season 3 winner Adam. Mackenzie is revealed to be the daughter of country singer and Famous student star Trace Adkins and Hud, the son of Grammy-winning singer John Mellencamp (and brother of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave).

In one of her final confessions on the show, Mackenzie said that flirting with Hud was just for strategy, but “after this game is over, get back to me and we’ll see.” So Entertainment weekly did, and while the pair have played it coy, with Mackenzie saying they’re “just chilling out”, they both remain mum when asked if either of them considers themselves single.

They admit to visiting each other in Indiana and Tennessee, with Hud and Mellencamp heading to Nashville for Mackenzie’s finale viewing party. And Hud already has Adkins’ seal of approval. “My dad has met Hud, and my dad loves Hud,” Mackenzie tells EW.

Read on to learn more about their dating status, advice from their famous dads, and how they’re feeling about the loss.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How shocked were you to lose to Adam, after the confusing gameplay we’ve seen from him all season?

HUD Content: Yes, it’s always a shame when it’s so short, but I’d rather keep it that short than not at all.

MACKENZIE: Yeah, I agree. I mean, if you had asked me in episode 1 who would win, it probably wouldn’t have been Adam, but I’m happy for him.

HUD Content: If you had asked me right away who would win, it probably wouldn’t have been Adam.

Did your fathers give you any advice about making the show?

HUD Content: Yeah, I think my dad was pretty helpful. And she said she got some good advice from her dad. My dad, because my sister has been on a couple of shows, he said something like, go for it. Do your best. Try to go out there and win, but also be honest with yourself. Don’t come back and feel bad about what you did on TV.

MACKENZIE: My dad definitely said that I should get to know everyone and fly under the radar for a while and then challenge people once I had a sense of them. But I mean, I was lucky. We talked about it for a while. He was in two seasons of The studentso he had a lot of that with a lot of people there and a lot of gameplay there as well. So he was really helpful, that’s for sure.

I assume they both watch the season. What do they say about it?

MACKENZIE: My dad loves it. He watches it every week. I think he bought Hulu just for this. He gets really into it, he calls me and tells me all about it, and he’s really proud of it. It’s amazing to watch.

Does he already know the results or do you let him look?

MACKENZIE: No, he’s convinced that I’ll win. And Hud’s father is also convinced that Hud won.

HUD Content: I live down the street from my dad, so I see him almost every day. And every time I see him, he’s like, “Hud, did you win the show?” And then you can just watch and find out.

MACKENZIE: Hud and his dad come to Nashville, along with a bunch of other contestants, to watch (the finals) together. My dad says, “If you hadn’t won, you wouldn’t be having this party.” He’s convinced.

Did your fathers get to know people along the way, the relatives of the other participants?

HUD Content: My dad put a couple of things together. He thought Danny was related to Marlon Brando, and I thought, “Dude, you’re going to flip.”

MACKENZIE: My dad got Michael Bolton really young. I was just like, ugh, I’m so mad that everyone gets that except me.

Have your fathers ever crossed paths because they work in the same industry?

MACKENZIE: Once or twice in passing. Yeah, I’m sure.

We’ve seen some serious flirting throughout the season, even when you two shared a drink in the finale and things got a little steamy. Did things get any hotter in the house than what we saw on TV?

HUD Content: In the house?

MACKENZIE: No. There were cameras everywhere. That wasn’t… No. No.

HUD Content: That’s no show.

Mackenzie, in a confessional you said the flirting was just for the game, but to come back to you after the show. So, this is me coming back. Are you guys dating?

MACKENZIE: Hud’s been to Nashville a couple times and I’ve been to Indiana over there. So we just hang out.

Hud, what do you say?

HUD Content: What she just said. But I’m going to go after this interview. I have to pack some stuff. I’m going to go. I’m excited to see everybody. I’m excited to see her. It’s going to be a fun time.

Okay, would either of you say you’re currently single?

(Silence)

Okay. Silence speaks for itself. When you see each other, are the fathers okay with it?

MACKENZIE: My dad met Hud and my dad loves Hud. I think the whole football and college thing really killed him. My dad played football in college and he was like, “I liked that kid.”

Who else are you in touch with through the show?

HUD Content: We all have a group chat, but I love Shane and Danny. Every time I go to LA I call Shane.

MACKENZIE: Jill and Gracie for me. We have a group message. Love my girls.
