Chiefs bring Kareem Hunt to visit after Isiah Pacheco injury

The Chiefs may turn to a familiar face after Isiah Pacheco was sent to the injured list.

According to multiple sources, Kareem Hunt will visit the Chiefs on Tuesday, which could potentially see him play with the team where he started his career.

Hunt is currently without a team after playing his first two seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs before moving to Cleveland, where he played from 2019 until last year.

The 29-year-old is still nowhere near as good as he used to be, when he threw for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns in his rookie season in 2017.

Hunt was fired by the Chiefs in November 2018 after video footage surfaced showing the running back shoving and kicking a woman. The following season, Hunt was suspended eight games after signing with Cleveland.

The back appeared in 91 games – starting 38 – and recorded 4,436 yards on the ground for 40 touchdowns and 1,890 passing yards for 17 touchdown catches.

News of Hunt’s visit comes after it was reported that Pacheco was expected to be out for six to eight weeks with a broken fibula he suffered in the Week 2 win over the Bengals.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters Monday afternoon about Kansas City’s options at the running back position.

Reid said general manager Brett Veach was “looking at people” in terms of free agents.

“We’ll see where that goes,” Reid said, according to the Kansas City Star. “But we’re blessed to have some good people here.”

Rookie Carson Steele is one of the options behind Pacheco, a Rutgers product, and he played a role in Sunday’s win over Cincinnati.

Steele had seven carries for 24 yards and a fumble on Sunday.

Samaje Perine is also another option for the Chiefs at defender now that Pacheco is out.
