Chiefs bring back RB Kareem Hunt with Isiah Pacheco injured

Pacheco is expected to be out for the next six weeks with a broken fibula he suffered in the Chiefs’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

In signing Hunt, the Chiefs hope the 29-year-old can help a backfield that currently features rookie fullback Carson Steele and running back Samaje Perine, who has been with the team for about three weeks since being waived by the Denver Broncos. Veteran back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is currently on the non-football sick list and isn’t cleared to return until Week 5.

From 2019 through last season, Hunt played for the Cleveland Browns, where he appeared in 64 games with 2,285 rushing yards and 3,342 scrimmage yards. For comparison, during his time with Kansas City, which turned out to be 27 games, he rushed for 2,151 yards and had 2,984 scrimmage yards.

The Chiefs aren’t hoping for a version of Hunt who blew the league away in his first two seasons, but they are looking for a veteran who can help them in the interim while Pacheco recovers.
