Chappell Roan Gives Fiery Medieval Performance of ‘Good Luck, Babe’ at 2024 VMAs

Chappell Roan is your favorite knight in shining armor’s favorite knight in shining armor.

On Wednesday, September 11, the 26-year-old pop star performed her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” at the 2024 MTV VMAs, which took place at UBS Arena in New York City.

Before Roan, who has drag artists as opening acts on tour, began her set, she was introduced by RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Sasha Colby. The “Naked in Manhattan” artist wore a suit of armor, seemingly inspired by Joan of Arc, as she sang the hit.

At the beginning of her performance, Roan appeared behind bars in a medieval castle with a crossbow in her hand. The “My Kink Is Karma” singer was then released and joined by several male dancers dressed in armor who danced and performed fictional fight scenes.

In addition to Roan, this year’s VMAs will be performed by Katy Perry, Anitta, Karol G, Shawn Mendes, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa, Megan Thee Stallion and Benson Boone.

This year marks the first time the “Casual” singer has appeared on the VMAs stage for an awards show. She had record-breaking attendance at the VMAs. Lollapalooza and Governor’s Ball earlier this summer.

At the 2024 VMAs, Roan was nominated for Best New Artist, MTV Push Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” Summer Song for “Good Luck, Babe!” and Best Trending Video for “Hot to Go!”

Last month, Roan made a surprise appearance alongside Olivia Rodrigo during her intestines World tour concert at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Together they performed a surprise duet with Roan’s “Hot to Go!” Before launching into the song, the 21-year-old “Vampire” artist gave a fun introduction.

“I think she is one of the most unique, inspiring and powerful artists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I am so excited because she is going to sing one of my favorite songs of all time,” said Rodrigo.

In In fan-captured footage, the pop stars belted out “Hot to Go!” as they jumped onstage and performed the song’s signature dance moves.
