Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever Qualify for WNBA Playoffs

Caitlin Clark is headed to the WNBA playoffs in her rookie season.

The star player led the Indiana Fever to their first playoff berth since 2016 on Tuesday night despite it being an off day for the team.

It also ended the franchise’s seven-season playoff drought, the longest in WNBA history.

The No. 1 draft pick, widely considered the favorite to win WNBA Rookie of the Year, and the Fever advanced to the postseason thanks to Las Vegas’ 90-71 win over Chicago and Phoenix’s 74-66 victory over Atlanta on Tuesday night.

Indiana, which moved to 17-16 after a win on Sunday, has a winning record for the first time since June 2019 and is ranked sixth.

Eight teams qualify for the WNBA playoffs, with seven now filled.

Phoenix (17-17) also earned a spot in the playoffs on Tuesday after missing the playoffs last year for the first time since 2012.

Chicago and Atlanta, both 11-22, are battling for the final spot with Washington, which beat Dallas 90-86 on Tuesday and is now 10-23.

New York Liberty, Connecticut, Minnesota, Las Vegas and Seattle had already qualified for the play-offs.

Clark has had an impressive debut season.

In 33 games, she averaged 18.7 points per game, 8.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Clark, who led the Iowa Hawkeyes to two NCAA championships during her illustrious career, earlier this year became the all-time leading scorer in Division I basketball history.

This impressive feat recently led to the end of the friendship between two WNBA legends, Nancy Lieberman and Sheryl Swoopes.
