Caitlin Clark Breaks Numerous WNBA Records Wearing Kobe Shoes Against Angel Reese’s Sky

WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark made a strong case for her Rookie of The Year award on Friday against rival Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky.

Clark broke multiple WNBA records during the Indiana Fever’s 100-81 victory over the Sky. In the game, Clark showed off a new pair of Nike Kobe 6 Protro PE shoes and showed off Kobe Bryant merchandise for Reese.

Reese said Kobe Bryant was one of her favorite players. Last year, she even partnered with her own foundation, the former NBA star’s, to promote a clothing line.

Clark didn’t give up on the basketball court either, scoring a career-high 31 points and 12 assists, breaking several WNBA records in the process.

It was the first 30-point, 12-assist game in WNBA history. She now becomes just the fifth player in NBA history, and the first rookie, to have at least 30 points and 10 assists in a game.

Additionally, Clark now has 11 double-doubles to his name, tying the WNBA record for most double-doubles by a guard in a single season.

She also broke the single-season record for most games scoring at least 20 points and 10 assists in a game in WNBA history.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Clark also passed Ticha Penicheiro to claim the record for most games with at least 10 assists by a rookie in WNBA history.

With the performance, Clark also became the first player in WNBA history to score at least 25 points, 10 assists and five 3-pointers in multiple games.

Friday’s historic achievement comes just three days after Clark set the record for most 3-pointers made, a WNBA record, surpassing the record initially held by the The Atlanta Dream Rhyne Howard. She was 3-of-12 from downtown and finished with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists as Indiana earned its 15th victory.

That same night, she also became the first WNBA player to record at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists in six consecutive WNBA games. It was her 10th straight game with at least 15 points and five rebounds, putting her in the elite club with Diana Taurasi as players to have accomplished the feat.

Breaking historic records in women’s basketball is nothing new for Clark, despite it being a WNBA debut.

During her collegiate career at the University of Iowa from 2020-24, Clark became the all-time NCAA Division I men’s and women’s scoring leader. She broke the NCAA single-season record for 3-pointers and claimed the record for most career assists in NCAA tournament history.

Clark is being hailed by many as a player the women’s basketball team has never seen before.

Friday’s win also marks a new chapter in one of the WNBA’s hottest young rivalries, one that’s already been defined by several hostile moments involving Clark. Clark infamously suffered an illegal hip check from Chicago Sky forward Chennedy Carter on June 1 and a blow to the head from Sky rookie and longtime college rival Angel Reese on June 16.

Sky coach Theresa Witherspoon said “Nobody talks more bullshit than Caitlin,” she told reporters on June 27.
