BREAKING: 20 kidnapped medical students rescued in Benue

The 20 medical students who were abducted in Benue State on their way to a programme in Enugu State have been rescued.

The rescue mission was carried out through a joint effort of security agencies including the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and military personnel and equipment, with support from the Benue State Government.

The details of the rescue operation are still vague at the time of writing.

The abduction of the 20 medical students occurred on Thursday night at around 5:30 pm in Otukpo Local Government Area of ​​Benue State. The students were travelling in a convoy of two buses, en route to Enugu State for a programme. According to reports, while they were passing through Benue, from the northern part of the country, they were ambushed by bandits, leading to their abduction.

After their abduction, the kidnappers contacted the families of the victims and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million to secure the release of their hostages. However, responding to calls to rescue the students, Police Inspector Kayode Egbetokun promptly ordered the rescue of the victims.
