Arizona man accused of making social media threats to Trump arrested

Police have arrested an Arizona man who allegedly threatened to kill Donald Trump. The manhunt took place as the former president visited the border state.

According to police, Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, of Cochise County, has been making death threats against Trump on social media over the past two weeks.

Trump was in Cochise County on Thursday to visit the U.S.-Mexico border.

Last month, Trump was struck by a bullet during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Syrvud is also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.

He has multiple warrants out for his arrest in both Wisconsin and Arizona, including for driving under the influence and hitting and running.

According to police, he is from Benson, Arizona, a town about 50 miles southeast of Tucson.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday afternoon that they had arrested the suspect within county limits.

“This individual was arrested without incident,” the office said.

Trump spent Thursday in Cochise County, where he visited the U.S.-Mexico border.

During his speech, he attempted to blame his rival, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, for allowing illegal immigrants into the US.

Reporters asked him if he was aware of the search for the Cochise County suspect.

“No, I haven’t heard that, but I’m not that surprised. The reason is I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said.

This is not the first threat to a presidential candidate during this election campaign.

Earlier this month, a 66-year-old Virginia man was arrested on suspicion of making death threats against Vice President Harris and other administration officials.
