iPhones have always featured some of the best camera technology around, allowing them to take the kinds of photos you’d normally expect from full-format mirrorless cameras. Rumors have been swirling for months about what photography features we might see on the iPhone 16 lineup, but there are a few that really stand out.

One of these is the heavily rumored addition of a new dedicated camera button on the outer edge of the phone. This button is said to be focused specifically on photography, with multiple levels of pressure that would allow a half-press to focus, as you would on regular cameras. Some rumors also suggest that it will recognize swipes, potentially allowing you to swipe across the button to quickly zoom in or change other settings.

In addition to the new button, early tipsters have suggested that the Pro models will get larger camera sensors for the main camera. I’m quite curious about this, as larger image sensors allow for better dynamic range and better overall image quality. Hence, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra should be able to take some stunning photos with its massive 1-inch image sensor.

While there are plenty of other camera rumors floating around, one of the most prevalent is that the 5x optical zoom will be available on both the standard Pro and Pro Max models. Now, if you want the long zoom (which, as a photographer, I do), that means you’ll have to shell out for the bigger, more expensive phone. If this is true, you could opt for the smaller, more pocket-friendly iPhone 16 Pro without sacrificing any camera performance.
