Classes had been in session for over a month when the deadly attack occurred.

About an hour after the shooting, students were evacuated from the school and sent home.

Sergio Caldera, a 17-year-old senior at the school, told ABC News he was studying chemistry when they heard a volley of gunfire.

“My teacher goes to open the door to see what’s going on. Another teacher comes running in and tells her to close the door because there’s an active shooter,” said Caldera, who recalled someone banging on their door and yelling, “Open up!”

Then the knocking stopped and the class heard gunshots and screams.
