Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois: AJ has ‘demonic look in his eyes’ ahead of IBF heavyweight title fight | Boxing News

Anthony Joshua is building momentum behind him again. After two losses to Oleksandr Usyk and a tentative comeback against Jermaine Franklin, the former unified heavyweight champion has found himself in ominous form.

He won three consecutive victories over Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

He will look to continue this style when he fights Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium on September 21, live on Sky Sports box office.

Many boxers expect Joshua to regain the title he once held.

A snapshot of the boxers during the September 21 undercard suggests AJ will beat Dubois.

For example, Tyler Denny, the European champion, said: “I think if I had to choose, I would choose Joshua. I think they both have the devastating power to knock each other out, and that’s why it’s so fascinating.

“If I had to choose, I would go with AJ.”

Fabio Wardley believes Anthony Joshua has regained his aggressive nature and will be full of confidence when he takes on Daniel Dubois.

Former world champions Liam Smith and Josh Warrington agreed.

“In terms of confidence and results, they’re in great shape. But I think it’s a style that probably suits Joshua more than Dubois,” Smith said.

Warrington said: “They’re both big punchers. I’m leaning towards AJ. The reason for that is he’s got a confident look about him. He’s still got that devilish look in his eye and he’s been here before.”

But Dubois is not an easy man to beat. He has lost twice, last year to the brilliant Usyk and in 2020 when he came up against a strong performance from Joe Joyce.

But he recently scored two solid wins and the IBF Interim title, which was later converted into a world championship.

Frazer Clarke says losses to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk have made Daniel Dubois a more mature fighter and a dangerous threat to Anthony Joshua.

Kevin Lerena fought Dubois in 2022 in a stadium in London. The South African came close to victory, having knocked Dubois down three times in the first round before the Brit knocked him out.

Lerena believes Dubois will be a formidable opponent for Joshua.

“Yes, he lost to Usyk – but look what Dubois has done to (Jarrell) Miller and (Filip) Hrgovic (in his last two fights). He’s riding the crest of a wave, the confidence is sky high and he’s a serious, serious heavyweight at the moment,” Lerena told the Teen2Teen podcasting.

Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles tells Sky Sports he is in the best possible shape and ready for his fight against Anthony Joshua to defend his IBF heavyweight title. The bout will be shown live on Sky Sports Box Office on September 21.

“He’s very strong. He’s got a lot of power behind his punches. It’s no secret. Most of the guys who’ve sparred with him or fought with him say the same thing, echo the same sentiments.

“I think that’s his biggest attribute. He’s a strong guy, he’s a strong puncher. But the guy he’s with is just as strong. AJ is phenomenal.

“It’s a really great fight because both guys are on an upward trajectory. I think Daniel has fought the better opponents in terms of quality in the last three or four fights. But having said that, AJ did what he had to do with the level of opponent that was in front of him. He beat them,” Lerena continued.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois were separated by security ahead of their IBF world title fight at Wembley.

“It’s a great fight. It’s a tough fight for both guys.”

That makes it, in his eyes, a difficult fight to predict. “A lot of people use that term loosely, they say whoever wants it the most on the night will win. Well, that’s what’s going to happen with this fight,” Lerena said.

“Because they’re both strong, they can both punch and they can’t afford to hit each other on the chin. Because it’s a heavyweight game and they can both punch.”
