Angel Reese Confirms Caitlin Clark Will Get Special Whistle During Sky Blowout Loss

Chicago Sky suffered another disappointing loss, this time to Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever by a score of 100-81.

Although Sky rookie Angel Reese finished the loss with her 23rd double-double of the season (setting a Chicago Sky franchise record and a WNBA rookie record for most double-doubles in a single season), it was still a frustrating game for her and her teammates.

And one of Reese’s teammates let her frustration get the better of her.

Sky guard Diamond DeShields was guarding Clark in the fourth quarter. She fouled Clark on an inbounds play, nearly knocking Clark to the floor. Clark made a free throw (the Fever were in the bonus) and then another inbounds play followed.

And DeShields fouled Clark again in exactly the same manner.

After this second violation, DeShields couldn’t believe the call had been made. This prompted Reese to pull DeShields aside and say, “She’s getting another whistle,” about Clark.

X user @traekwan1 posted the video and audio of Reese saying this to DeShields shortly after it happened.

Reese said much the same thing when she spoke about Clark during a postgame press conference on June 16, following the Fever’s 91-83 win over the Sky. When asked about a flagrant foul she committed on Clark during that game, Reese said, “I think some people got a special whistle.”

Regardless of the special treatment Clark is getting, the bottom line is that Sky are in a downward spiral, having lost five games in a row and were 1-6 in August.

Fortunately, Chicago still has time to right the ship and stay in the race for the playoffs, and they’ll try to do just that on Sunday against the red-hot Minnesota Lynx.
