NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — One hundred and seventy-six passengers on an Alaska Airlines flight scheduled to land in Seattle were forced to disembark before takeoff due to a “potential traffic conflict,” which caused the plane’s tires to deflate from the heat.

Both Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Alaska Airlines issued similar statements on the matter, stating that Flight 369 was aborted due to a potential runway conflict. The crew had been cleared for takeoff when they were forced to apply the brakes, causing heat to build up in the tires. The crew was able to get close to the terminal as the tires deflated and passengers began to disembark.

Alaska Airlines stated, “We are grateful for the expertise of our pilots who immediately applied the brakes to prevent the incident from escalating. We deeply regret the distressing experience this has created for our guests and crew. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported by our guests or crew.”

The airline said another plane was sent to the airport on Thursday evening to transport guests to their intended destination.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued the following statement regarding the incident:

“The crew of Alaska Airlines Flight 369 halted their departure because Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 was cleared to cross the end of the same runway at Nashville International Airport. The Alaska Airlines crew reported tire blowouts while braking. The FAA is investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. local time on Thursday, September 12.”
