Alabama football drops in AP top 25, coaches poll after loss to Vanderbilt

Alabama football’s time at the top lasted just a week.

For a week, the Crimson Tide was in the top two. Then an ugly loss to Vanderbilt on the road quickly took away those rankings.

Alabama is now ranked No. 7 in the coaches poll. The AP top 25 will be released Sunday around 1:00 PM CT, but the Crimson Tide will certainly fall from No. 1.

Meanwhile, in the SEC for the coaches poll, Texas remains No. 1. Georgia moved up one spot to No. 4.

A week ago, after beating Georgia, Alabama took the No. 1 spot in the AP top 25 and the No. 2 spot in the coaches poll.

Then the Crimson Tide turned in a lackluster, uninspiring performance in Nashville, losing to Vanderbilt for the first time since 1984, 40-35. Alabama’s offense scored five touchdowns, but also had two turnovers. Meanwhile, the defense gave up more third-down conversions (12) than it did in four games the entire season before (11). The defense couldn’t get off the field at crucial moments as the Vanderbilt offense controlled possession.
