AJ Brown on pitch conditions in Brazil: “It wasn’t that bad”

The Eagles left Brazil with a win over the Packers, but AJ Brown took some time after the game to talk to reporters before heading back to Philly.

Brown said he wanted to get in early, admitting he was a little bit in his head after sitting out the Eagles’ playoff game due to injury. He wanted to feel that first tackle and get back into it.

He thought it was a good game overall. They knew things were going to go wrong, it being the first game of the season, but they made adjustments and it came down to making plays.

Here’s what else the WR had to say:

On the field conditions

Brown explained that there are also different types of grass in the United States and that soccer is played on different surfaces.

“You can’t choose which grass you play on. It wasn’t that bad. We changed the studs and you make the best of it.”

He went on to say that he and some other guys had switched cleats after the first drive, but the Packers ended up playing on the same field so they had to find a way to make it work.

“For me it wasn’t really a complaint.”

About Jalen Hurts’ performance

“(Hurts) did well.”

Brown admitted the QB would likely say he wants some of those throws back, but that was a question for Hurts.

About Saquon Barkley’s performance

“(Barkley) really played tonight. He should have had four touchdowns, and I told him. But he really did a good job. It helps us, when you get the ground game going, it helps the passing game. We’re happy to have him on our team, and he’s started the season well.”

Other notable people

  • He talked about a mini-bye after their international and they will have to do what they have to do to get their bodies back in order after all the travelling. Brown said there were no excuses, they are professionals and have to get the job done.
  • The WR said it was great to play in Sao Paulo, even though the fans didn’t always know when to cheer, but they were loud the whole game. He admitted the city has a bad reputation, especially because they have a long list of things they are not allowed to do, but everyone treated the team well and it was great to see the city.

“I’m glad we got the chance to come here and play.”

  • Brown talked about how tough the Packers are to play against and how it wasn’t an easy win. Green Bay did a good job mixing things up and now the Eagles will continue to fix and improve.
  • He was later asked why the team had lost the turnover battle 3-1. Brown indicated that they had to fix it, but added, “That’s our responsibility.”
