Is your iPhone on Verizon network stuck in SOS mode? The government wants to do something about this.

On Monday, dozens of US Verizon customers reported being unable to connect to Verizon’s mobile network. As a result, the FCC is investigating the massive outage, according to Reuters. The federal agency “is working to determine the cause and extent of these service disruptions.”

Because the outage continues and the investigation has only just begun, it is difficult to say what, if anything, will emerge. But at least someone is looking into it.

Reports of service issues hit Verizon’s Downdetector page Monday morning, and as of this writing the issue has still not been fully resolved. I have an iPhone 16 running on Verizon’s network and have not had access to a cellular network for about five hours. Unfortunately, there is no clear word yet on when the issue will be resolved.
