Liverpool won their first three games with no goals conceded and concerns that new manager Arne Slot would not be able to fill the shoes of former manager Jurgen Klopp eased.

Last weekend the Reds were utterly crushed by 11/1 underdogs Nottingham Forest in a 1-0 defeat at Anfield. All the talk of Liverpool as title contenders has now given way to scepticism about Slot’s start. The honeymoon is over.

The pressure is mounting as the Reds now have to travel to Italy to take on AC Milan on Tuesday afternoon in the opening game of the Champions League.

Only four games have been played, but it seems clear that Slot prefers control over chaos. It is a significant change in tactics from Klopp, who was keen for his team to play aggressive football, which led to plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch.

This is reflected in the numbers, as Liverpool are averaging just two goals (GF + GA) per game under Slot — 1.34 fewer than the average under Klopp last season.

It’s early days yet, but it feels like we’re getting used to a new world where Liverpool are an Under team.
